Swine Flu Pandemic
|
24 FEBRUARY 2010 — The Emergency Committee that advises the Director-General on the pandemic influenza recommended that it is premature to make any change in the pandemic phase, at their meeting yesterday. Having considered the committee's views, the Director-General determined to maintain the current pandemic status.
This is the first flu pandemic in 41 years and is being declared as infections climbed in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and globally throughout the world.
Swine flu first emerged from Mexico and the US during April 09, since spreading to over 70 countries. Up to 10th June 09 27,737 cases had been reported including 141 deaths.Normally symptoms are mild and not requiring treatment but the fear is that hospitals may be overwhelmed with new cases — especially in Third World countries. The Swine Flu threat as of Feb 2010 is reducing but please do not get complacent as people are still dying from the disease
